Security tips.
Please get familiar with the following ideas to help stop the bad guys from ripping decent people off.
Common sense stuff.
- Report lost or stolen cards immediately on 1800 080 000 - we're here 24/7.
- Sign your new card as soon as you get it with a black or blue ball point pen
- Keep all your receipts until you've checked them against your statement, then destroy them (or store them if you need them for your tax).
- If you are not using your card or it has expired, destroy it immediately by cutting it into several pieces (and return it to us if you want to be super cautious).
- Keep your credit card number somewhere safe - you'll need it if you ever have to report that your card's been lost or stolen.
- Treat your card as if it were cash and don't leave it lying around.
- Never give your card to anyone, even family members or friends - you can always give them an additional card.
- Never write your PIN down, and make sure it's a number that can't be found in your wallet, like a date of birth
- Keep us up to date with all your contact details including phone numbers and your email address.
- Know where your card is at all times. It is risky to leave your card behind the bar or give your card to the waiter rather than walking to the counter.
- Don't use any dodgy looking ATMs. Any ATM that has a smashed screen or looks damaged in any way isn't worth the risk. Find another one.
When you're overseas.
- Keep this number handy - +61 2 93747685. You can call it reverse charge, 24/7 from anywhere in the world to report a lost or stolen card.
- Call us in advance to let us know your travel plan. This is the best way to avoid having your card blocked unnecessarily when doing transactions from unusual and exotic locations.
- When you do travel, have more than one way to pay in case of an emergency.
When you're online.
- Only shop online at reputable, reliable and secure websites (you should see a lock symbol somewhere on the bottom right of your computer screen).
- Print out a copy of your receipt for your records when shopping online. Or you can copy the receipt and paste the info into a password protected file that you keep on your computer.
- Sign onto websites by typing out the web address (including the Virgin Credit Card site). And never click through from an email or third party website when logging in to your online account.
- Always have computer security protection, and make sure it's up to date.
- Remember to log off when leaving secure internet sites.
